GageJC Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 My mobo is a new Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6, and when the first PCI Ex 16x slot is used, you can't use any PCI Ex 1x slots, whereas if you put the graphics card in the x8 slot, you free up two 1x slots. I'm thinking of putting the 4770 into the x8 slot so that I can use the 1x slots (I need them for other peripherals). Would this cause any detrimental effects to the system performance? I don't play any games. I will be running Win7 64-bit, and I do editing on Photoshop CS4 and Google Sketchup, etc. Thanks for the help! road-runner Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 It will work fine, just change the boot order in the bios to that slot, you cant tell the difference unless benchmarking even then its not very much...

_TheAlexO Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 i doubt it will make any sort of difference on a 4770.. even on the high end cards theres not a difference barely
hardnrg Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I could still play 1080p video on my HD4850 with it in a PCIe 1.0 x16 slot @ 2x speed that would be the same as a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot @ 1x speed

One of the tech websites did a 1x -> 16x comparison on PCIe 2.0 and the difference was less than 5% on a 4870 and GTX280. From 4x -> 16x the difference was within their margin of error.
