young-joseph Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I used to put a plastic sandwich bag or saran wrap around my finger and then spread it that way. Gave it that satisfying finger spreading goodness as well keeping oils out. Not to mention you don't have a goopy finger when you are done. Zertz Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I apply it in a "X" shape, always perfect coverage assuming the processor and heatsink are reasonably flat.

jlqrb Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 When I used AS5 I would spread it with a powder-free glove on. I recently switched over to ARCTIC COOLING MX-2, it is so smooth it spreads across the whole CPU with a small dot in the middle. IVIYTH0S Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I have an old Pentium (3?) Socket 478 that I may use to spread the thermal compound, nothing is better for spreading thermal compound on a processor than....ANOTHER PROCESSOR . Though I wonder if the old intel will try to get a few punches in with AMD's that I work on.
