Queenz Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I'm still looking for a tv to get . I was looking into getting this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...;ci_sku=9239399 But it's plasma so I have my doubts. Is it true the picture degrades after a while? But while that bothers me I do like the fact that they have faster refresh rates which comes in handy when I watch sports. I really don't know whats better Plasma or LCD. I also heard Plasma uses alot more electricity and puts out alot of heat too.
Krieg1337 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I have a 42"(I think) Samsung LCD, the 120HZ version and let me tell you, its amazing! Picture quality is really really nice, and I have no issues with watching sports, like the picture doesn't screw up on the TV's side. Waco Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 All your worries are born from *very* old technology. The new ones are infinitely better and suffer no more burn in or fade than LCDs do. Especially with a Samsung you can't go wrong.
Mikesnow Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Plasma/LCD really not much difference anymore tbh. Typicaly the Plasmas are cheaper these days, but it's really not that much of a difference. The tv in that link you posted is a great TV for 1000 dollars IMHO. cchalogamer Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 They DO make a lot of heat, and they don't do as well as LCDs in bright rooms, but most of the OMG NO PLSMAS 4 MEH crowd is basing it on the much older models that were far worse in every respect. In other words, if you like it buy it
CowKing Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 but plasma does have that glare problem. if u can wait a year than get a 240Hz LCD for a $1000
xPETEZx Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 but plasma does have that glare problem. if u can wait a year than get a 240Hz LCD for a $1000 You serious? Then why not wait till 2050, and just get an implant that projects straight into your eyes at 100 GHz.. If you wait for the next best thing, you will ALWAYS be waiting. Especially in the LCD market. There are so many brands and technologies, that one of them ALWAYS has the next best thing just around the corner.
Bizzlenitch Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 +1 for the 120Hz Samsung LCDs. Have had one about a year now, they're DA BOMB!
psycho_terror Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 i had no idea that plasma screens offered such amazing refresh/response times. on that basis alone i would say plasma is the way to go, especially with the 3D push that's happening at the moment. Waco Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 i had no idea that plasma screens offered such amazing refresh/response times. Their contrast and black levels are hugely superior to even the best LCDs as well.
Krieg1337 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Their contrast and black levels are hugely superior to even the best LCDs as well. They just have a better color black, LCD's are better overall though.
Waco Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 They just have a better color black, LCD's are better overall though. That's not true at all. Bright rooms are just about the only setting that an LCD will look better in.
