my grandmothers computer wont boot into windows me. It goes through startup, and then you see the ME splash screen for less than hgalf a second, then a black screen that says "Not enough extended memory available to run windows. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory or restart your computer." I tried booting into safe modewhich is tricky in itself as I can only seem to manage it once out of every ten restarts. When I did get in, I did a system restore, to no avail, so the next time I unchecked all the startup applications, un installed a bunch of programs, deleted un needed files.

I tried installing more ram, but that didnt fix it either. Any idea of what to do (and dont recomend installing another os, she doesnt want to spend any more money on this)

OMG

Windows ME sucks!

:P

I dunno, thats a weird problem, can you access the boot menu and make it to the command prompt?

If so then you may want to try looking at the config.sys file and seeing whats booting with ME.

there was 128, which ran fine until now. I put in a stick of 512 and the same error came up. Im not sure what extended memory is, but its obviously not physical memory or that would have solved the problem. is there an extended memory setting in windows?

See post #3

Can you access the boot menu and make it to the command prompt?

(select boot into command prompt fro the menu when ME starts)

If so then you may want to try looking at the config.sys file and seeing whats booting with ME.

(edit c:\config.sys)

Post up what is in that file.
