sdy284 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 so I installed folding on my roommates PS3 yesterday around 6pm, and it's only completed 4 units so far , isn't this a little slow? I thought PS3's were supposed to be folding power houses? (and the WU's it did complete weren't worth many points) It hasn't been shut off at all since I installed it. It does go into screensaver mode while folding... does that somehow throttle down the CPU? is this normal or am I retarded (or both )
ir_cow Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) back in 2006 before CUDA 900PPD was like amazing when my 3700+ would only get 150ppd. the screen saver is normal btw. since the ps3 is running a nvidia 7800gtx it can't do CUDA so folding is coming 100% from the SPUs. WhenKittensATK Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 They were before new and better hardware came out. Along with the GPU folding client.

romeo55 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Yeah apparently the new thing is the nvidia client... a $110 9800GT can put out 5500+ ppd... and the best price/performance ratio is coming out of the 9600GT which makes about 4200. And I like it... doesn't slow/eat system resources like CPU clients.
