TropicalPreist Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 So as i said what would be a better setup? 285 sli or 4890 in crossfire? Also if either is a better setup, would it be a big gap? 4890- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102840 GTX 285- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814143201 -Mike
Water_Hazard Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 285 in sli is going to be better most if not all of the time. the 4890 is better compared to the gtx
Bosco Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 The scaling will come down to the games you are going to play. Right now it seems that NVIDIA has quite the hold in that area, and out numbers ATI in the amount of games that allows scaling. Like everything things change, but this has been a common theme for a while now.
IVIYTH0S Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 the 4890 duo will win by price, and the 285 duo will win by performance. If you're talking 275 SLI vs 4890 Xfire then THAT'S a tough question (though it'd probably be the same 4890 winning in price but 275 having a slight edge in performance)
unknownuser200 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 hmmm seeing that the that particular version of the 4890 did very well in tests.... it comes down to scaling...

ThomasW Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Wouldn't a GTX 285 or something like that be better than 3-way SLI GTX 260s...? ^^ this. As I browsed the hardware sites today, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to get two lower-grade video cards right now. Your 4890s will cost about $400-450, and your 285's will cost over $600. I would definitely just get the GTX 295. Your performance will be much better, and you can scale it with the same card later on if you need to. Actually, if you can wait, DX11 supporting cards will be out later this year (Q3, last I heard). Just throwing that out there.
