InvaderTrax Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Does AS 3 harden after a while? And when it's heated, does it become thinner and more slippery?
Paranoid Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Here is a quote from http://www.arcticsilver.com "Arctic Silver 3 does not contain any silicone. The suspension fluid is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that work together to provide three distinctive functional phases. As it comes from the tube, Arctic Silver 3's consistency is engineered for easy application in a thin even layer. During the CPU's initial use, the compound thins out to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure the best physical contact between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 50 to 200 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability. (This should not be confused with conventional phase change pads that are pre-attached to many heatsinks. Those pads melt each time they get hot then re-solidify when they cool. The viscosity changes that Arctic Silver 3 goes through are much more subtle and ultimately much more effective.)"
captor Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 so, scrape off the stuff on the heatsink and use AS? lol jkz, im bored.
ClayMeow Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 (edited) i remember AS3 being so easy to apply...being thin and all. I got some Ceramique and applied it a couple of days ago...holy crap is it thick. Good thing it's not electically conductive, because it was a pain in the . to spread and i'm sure some oozed out when i put on the heatsink. Yeah yeah...i know artic says you're supposed to put a rice-sized amount in the middle of the core and let the heatsink's pressure spread it itself, but who really does that? I need to know it's spread In the meantime...i'm getting basically the same temps i got with AS3 Edited January 5, 2004 by ClayMeow
