Asus Cusl2-c Temp Readings?

Recommended Posts

Over the past week I've cleaned a couple of older computers that my kids are using.

Both are identical except for cpus, graphics cards and harddrives. Both have Thermaltake Volcano7 heatsinks with the sensors modded to run the fans at max (5000 rpm), and the thermal compound used was Arctic Silver Ceramique, and yes it (compound) was properly applied.

Upon power up I'd go straight into the bios to monitor the temperature for around 15 minutes or so. Oddly enough, the P3-800 (my 7 year old son's computer) showed a temperature of 40 to 41 degrees celsius earlier today, and the P3-1000 (my 13 year old son's computer) showed a temperature of 38 to 39.5 degrees a few days ago.

My question is such:

Did the older Asus boards report "higher than actual temps", or do the Coppermines run at these temps?

I know that these are dinosaurs by todays standards, but they seem to be happy with them for now, and my wallet is grateful for that!

Thanks for any help guys! :D

You're 933 is overclocked,  the 2 that my kids are using are not.

What hsf are you using?

I'll check for the bios, hope they still have support for that board.

Edit: What version of bios are you using, 1009 or the beta 1014?

i believe its the 1009, not using a beta bios, when its not oced, it ran in the 32-33ish range and now it runs about 39-40 idle and about 46-47 load.

i am using an old pure copper hsf that i used to have on my amd rig, works pretty well on my p3.

So the temps are a bit high for non overclocked Coppermines. Maybe that can be attributed to the hsfs.

I've downloaded the bios from Asus and will upgrade sometime this week.

Thanks Systematic! :D
