matthewh133 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, I will be building my new i7/4890 build soon and I want it set up so it can take 2 of the 4890's, as I will be purchasing a second in a few months. Atm this is my ideal build: WWW.PCCASEGEAR.COM Memory: OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Platinum 3x2GB - $159.00 GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD4890 Overclocked - $315 PSU: Corsair TX-750 750W Power Supply - $219 OR Corsair TX-650 650W Power Supply - $169 CPU Heatsink: CoolerMaster V8 CPU Cooler - $89 OR Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU Cooler - $55 Optical Drive: LG GH22NS30 SATA DVDRW Black OEM - $55 Total: $831 or $753 with cheaper option heatsink and PSU. MSY CPU: Intel Core i7 920 1366pin-series - $392 Mobo: Gigabyte EX58-UD4P - $329 HDD: Seagate SATA 500G - $74 Case: CoolerMaster HAF 932 Case - $209 Total: $1004 Complete Total: $1840 or $1757 with cheaper PSU and heatsink. I'm thinking maybe I might need to get a larger wattage for the power supply to support crossfire 4980's? I'm not too sure. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks guys. Please note also that I will be planning on doing a little bit of overclocking, pushing the i7 to about 3.2 and the GPU a little also. So the cooling and power supply must also be able to take this Edited June 21, 2009 by matthewh133
Seriphx Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 750W should be more than enough for 2 4890's (correct me if I'm wrong). The rest of the build looks great Just make sure you call MSY and ask about stock before making the trip and waiting in the never ending line. Also why not get the Optical Drive from MSY? Their Sony and Samsung at 35 dollars SATA DVDRW. (Just a thought, might save you 20 dollars) And to any people thinking these prices may be a little crazy. He, like me is Australian So all prices AUD. Enjoy building it
iOverclock Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Msy sells XFX 4890 1gb for the same price. It has a lifetime warranty which is probally the best pick. I doubt Msy will pick up there phone. My brother had to get his Mobo rmaed and they didnt pick up for 3 days straight.
matthewh133 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Thanks to the both of you for the replies. You think the XFX is a better option, even though the sapphire is overclocked and the same price? I guess I could overclock the XFX myself, any advantages to the XFX other that warranty? Also swapped the Optical, thank for the suggestion! Saves me $
shibby_geek_guy_69 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Depending on the MSY store, you should be able to email ahead and have your order ready to be picked up in "Quick Chop Chop express order line"...Ok so maybe i had my boss at my night job (Chinese food delivery boy) saying "Chop Chop. you go now!!" to me all weekend... Not sure if they are actually using the "Quick Chop Chop express order line" or not but they advertise it (I Think...)
