redtigerdragon Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 How can you tell what stepping a processor is before taking it out of the box?
Kingfisher Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Well for AMD socket 939 and Intel socket 775 you can. The cpu heatshield is displayed through a plastic window on the box. The stepping code is also stickered on the box as well. Verran had posted a picture of an example somewhere in a thread before. As for other cpus, I can't be certain but I would imagine they all display stepping code somewhere on the retail package like the two examples I posted.
