Miek Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 This is my personal preference more than anything, but companies like alienware are sort of a rip off and overprice their stuff for what you get. I'd just do a custom build that'd be better for less. But to answer your question, I don't think it's worth going from 2.1 to 2.4 GHz for $150.00. scr4wl Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I'd personally go for the T8300, but unless you won't notice a huge difference between the two. As for it being a rip off it actually is. (To a point) I recently built the same exact laptop(M17) for a friend, and at the lower prices it's harder to do it cheaper then Alienware(M17), but once you get more expensive you can end up saving like $300. Here is the barebone I used.

I'm assuming screen quality and battery life aren't so great, they've gotta cut corners somewhere...
samrozzi Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 well ok seriously sorry for all the questions im jsut debating spending 850 on that asus or getting the alienware m15x with 4gb of ram the 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon
Zertz Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 all on atleast medium preferable high w/o spending a fortune Sorry, that's just not going to happen. The Asus at BestBuy is much better value. Like I said earlier, don't expect screen quality and battery life to be too good though. The Alienware is 500$ more and has roughly the same specs. cchalogamer Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 The ASUS is not bad at all, the 9800M GS matches the 8800M GT (close to a 9600GT desktop card) in my Gateway and does a very reasonable job of mobile gaming. Though to be honest I would be grabbing the newer version of my Gateway that has the 9800M GT. Only problem is it's more money and less portable (though larger and higher res LCD). Build quality isn't bad at all in ASUS or Gateway (ended up replacing my dead Acer with that acers...err lesser little brother the X83Vb-X2) As with my normal way of doing things Ive ripped them both partly into pieces and upgraded the old gateway's T5500 (crap CPU for that type laptop) to a T9300 that's better AND lasts longer on battery. As for the original $150 for a VERY small performance boost, skip it, not worth it considering you're not getting more cache or energy efficiency.
