EVGA GeForce GTX 295 vs 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 275 FTW

I am trying to decide between getting the EVGA GeForce GTX 295 or two EVGA GeForce GTX 275 FTW's.

I doubt I will be upgrading for a while. Please tell me what you think.

Thanks

Like I said in the other thread, I would vote for the 295 to simplify the rig and also leave a lot more room for upgrades in the future. But if you're not buying for quite a while there's no sense in deciding now. Things move too fast in this industry. If you decide now you'll almost surely change your mind by the time you buy.

I'd probably go with the 295 to simplify things as well.

But not because that would leave room for upgrades in the future, because I would never quad sli - it just doesn't scale well. If this is strictly for your need to play crysis, then search around the net for some benchmarks and decide. Either way I don't think it will matter much.

says the following but keep in mind this is a much higher resolution than you will be using:

"Even at 2560x1600 it seems most games are content with a single GTX 295 or equivalent.

The only game where we saw a distinct advantage at 2560x1600 was Crysis: Warhead. The problem is though that this game is now old and tired, who is playing it anymore still? Even with the recent release of the latest patch and 64-bit support it doesn’t offer anything worth going back and playing it all over again for a unique experience. Even with Quad SLI we still aren’t able to maximize AA settings at 2560x1600 and enjoy the game at the highest possible visual quality. Maybe the next generation video cards will allow us to play this game at the highest possible visual settings, but what kind of replay value this game has to you is of course subjective."

and:

"We found that performance was actually faster in GTA4 with one GTX 295 than it was with two GTX 295’s with Quad SLI enabled! Moving beyond two GPUs actually degraded performance and worsened the gameplay experience."

ok....? Let us know when you have played it and when it is old, and how it is relevent to the topic....lol I'm confused. Not sure why you quoted me.

My point is, is that of all the games they tested there was only 1 game, where 2x295 was even better than 1x295.

By the time you may consider putting a second 295 in there, I'll bet there still won't be any games that take good advantage of quad sli, and there will be better single cards for cheaper.

Basically the GTX295 is 2 GTX 275s put together for use as a single card (Dual PCB). I have not tested yet but the performance should be almost spot on between the two options so go with what you have room for and what causes you the least financial strain.

The GTX 295 is currently around $590 on Egghead.

GTX 260s are like $180.

GTX 295s get maybe 5-10 more fps than SLI 260s.

I've seen seriously overclocked SLI 260s beat 295s.

Verran is right, the SLI 275s wouldn't be much better than the 295 and would cost more, be hotter, and some games don't scale at all with SLI.

I personally would have saved $200 and got 2 GTX 260s tho if it was me.

:withstupid:

the 295 being the "king" gives it the right (similar to how the 285 is the "king" in single gpu cards, and thus has the steepest price tag to match)

two 260's would have been good if you need the power but really one 4890 or 275 OC'd could no doubt handle everything rather easily. 4870x2's are getting alot cheaper lately too

I guess it's too late now since you already bought it but what resolution are you running?

I would post mine but I would instantly be named OCC's biggest redneck. lol

Dave should post his eh? hahahha

The Key is to buy what you might need in the future to get the most from your investment as most people upgrade every 3 or 4 years not weeks or months like some of the people in the community. Just enough now = fail in 6 months to a year
