[DEAL] $50 Head-Direct RE2 + Fiio E5 (IEM earphones + amp)

Debating whether I should get these or not to replace my stock headphones on my Zune. But it's going to cut into my DAC/Amp fund :(. I do however use my Zune a lot when I'm not at home.

Just got them today. They ship pretty fast. It took 2 days to ship it from NY to FL with USPS First Class. They are located in NY, but have their in house brand made in China.

At first listening with them I was skeptical of any SQ improvements over the stock headphones. But song after song, it sounded better and better. I enjoy them now and I think they are going to be part of my permanent hardware.

The E5 sounds ok, the bass boost works nicely for certain types of songs like hip-hop and drums. Flat mode works well for all of the other songs, which I use for them. These E5 make my DT 770 Pro 80 ohm sound better on the Zune, not so much on the PC. I can't wait till I save up enough to get a high-end dac/amp and then things will really start to kick off. Rock songs sound really nice with these earphones, I especially enjoy listening to a few Incubus songs with them. Recently I been skipping them whenever they came up on the Zune, but now I listen to them fully with these earphones combined with the E5. This combo just makes their songs so much better. I have to slowly rebuild my FLAC (PC) and V0 (Zune) collection, since my 1.5 TB got corrupted and lost everything :(.

Another sad note, Head-Direct discontinued the pretty leather-like circular case housing for the earphones and are now using a regular retail looking cardboard box :(. I got the cardboard box instead of the cool leather-like case :(. They also rebranded them to HiFiMan RE2, to go along with their HiFiMan Hi-Fi music player. It cost $600 preordered for registered Head-Fi members and retails $700 after the promo pricing ends. Ouch pretty expensive :P.

Which supports natively:

APE Fast、Normal、High Mode

AAC 16K-320Kbps

FLAC、WMAlossless VBR 44.1kHz (will support 24bit 96KHz via softerware upgrade in the future)

WMA 8-355kbps

OGG Quality 0-Quality 10

WAV PCM,MS-ADPCM,IMA-ADPCM

MP3(VBR) 8-320Kbps

I'm not an expert or no where near one, but I like what I like. So, don't take my impression on these word for word.
