MandoPatriot Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Hello guys, thank you for looking at this and possibly giving me some info as to what to do. My friend was trying to install Counterstrike: Source on his old eMachine T3265, but his video card has not been updated. CSS would no run, telling him to update his card with the latest from Nvidia. So, he downloaded the driver, and after several attempts to install it (with no success), he called me. So I came over, told him he has to uninstall the old driver first, then reinstall the new one. So I uninstalled the old driver, and installed the new one. I forgot to delete the Nvidia folder that the installtion created, and I did not install in safe mode. CSS still was not running, as well as other games. BUT, the Nvidia Control Panel was showing (something it did not do with the old driver). So today, I came over and deleted the Nvidia folder associated with the new driver, uninstalled the old driver, and restarted in safe mode. Installed the new driver, restarted, everything looked fine. The Control panel was showing up and all seemed fine, but no games will run. All that comes up is a black screen with some characters at the top left of the screen. Can't even alt+tab or ctrl+alt+delete. I am totally baffled as to what to do. The old driver showing is 6.14.10.9371, and the new one I'm trying to install is 93.71. The display adapter is Nvidia Geforce4 MX integrated running on Windows XP. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!! jackbrennan2008 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 (edited) Download Driver Cleaner and install it (update if you need too) Here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 1. Uninstall the old driver 2. Restart in safemode 3. Run Driver Cleaner 4. Tick the bos to use multiple filters 5. Use the following cleaning tools: - Nvidia - Nvidia Control Panel - Nvidia PhysX 6. Click start and let it clean out all the old driver files. Then restart your PC and enter safe mode again 7. Install the latest driver, then restart your PC and just come into windows as you normally would. Hopefully that help solve your problem. But in all honesty if he is still running a Geforce 4 MX its time for an upgrade they had those while i was still in high school lol =D Here is a link to the latest Windows XP drivers for the Geforce 4 MX http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html Edited June 14, 2009 by jackbrennan2008
