r3d c0m3t Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Any racing fans on the forum? Been following Speed's coverage since 8 this morning, and it's off to a rather good start. Peugeot still seems to have to upper hand when it comes to speed, but they're still making a few mistakes here and there, such as that pit strategy colliding with another Prototype forcing them to pit, in the process missing 20 or so laps. Unfortunately, now there's a Guinea pig for tire changes and whatnot. All in all, Peugeot still has the lead and Audi is right behind them. Discuss, if there any fans of motorsport. nVidia_Freak Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I love Le Mans and related road races, but I don't have Speed channel. Is there anywhere that's streaming this year's Le Mans event? It doesn't have to be free, but would be nice.

jammin Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I've driven plenty of virtual laps of Le Mans, so yeah I'll be interested to see how it turns out. Thanks for the link to live coverage.
r3d c0m3t Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) Audi R15 FTMFW! Doesn't look like that right now, they're having far too many problems, there's only one active Prototype left. I've driven plenty of virtual laps of Le Mans, so yeah I'll be interested to see how it turns out. Thanks for the link to live coverage. No problem. Is it safe to assume some of laps originated from GT4? Edited June 13, 2009 by r3d c0m3t

Great_Gig Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Thanks for the links - I used to be a big fan and went to Le Mans for 7 years on the trot and stayed up the 24 hours for 5 of them! Happy days, I went when Jaguar and Peugeot were the top cars and Jean Todt was still with them then, before he went to Ferrari. There were also no chicanes on the Mulsanne in those days. Nice to see them doing well again, they always produced such a sexy looking car. Nothing quite like seeing them going hard at it right through the night, quite an exceptional motor race for sure. Peugeot 905 (1992) That's awesome. That mean you had a chance to see the XJR-9's and whatnot. I'm truly jealous as I wasn't watching motorsports during that time. It sucks because I wish I could have seen the Sauber C9, the 787B, R92's etc... And I posed this question to Speed during the coverage, but I doubt they answered - Why were those chicanes put in place of the original Mulsanne layout? Regulations or something? Andrewr05 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Look at some of the speeds the LM cars reached in the late 80s, quite a few of them used to reached 220MPH+ and a few even reached ~250MPH. Looking at trap speeds beyond 1990 you very rarely see any car exceeding 125MPH, whether or not that has to with track layout changes or general regulations I do not know. Still its like the groub B rally cars of that era, all power and no control. Just like modern rally cars these newer LM cars have immense technological advancements over the top speed monsters of 86, 87 and 88 (I believe 88 was when the new track layout first appeared).
