So my buddy's vid card fried on his xps, (core 2 duo,) and he ordered a gtx 260 and a 40" flat screen to replace it. Well, I got this email today....

so ben.... I haz bad bad bad news

my stuff came ion today and i dont have the connectors for the vid card... I need 2 *8pin and I only haz 1. So I decided to upgrade my powersupply but I have a dell case and power supply r on bottom not top....

So to make a long story short I just spent about $720 on newegg buying a new mobo (nvidia 780I ultra SLI), new PS 1350W (w/3 8pin connectors), and a new case cus the XPS case wont work w/the new powersupply....go jax!

Is this a good solution or were there other ways he could do this? I don't think it is too late to cancel the order!

that power supply is waaaay overkill. and $720 is ALOT of money for a board, ps, and case. I'd cancel it if it were me..

:withstupid::blink:

I thought Dell switched to ATX a while ago?

I called and told him but he wants the oversize power supply, (and I can't be one to throw stones about oversized power supplies.) He wants to eventually do some sli stuff. I guarantee his CPU will never be starved for power though. He is reusing the HD's and processor out of his Dell. The processor is the first gen quad cores. I am not really knowledgable about that tech. He is also reusing his stock heat sink for now. The good news is that when he changes the stock heat sink he will have a platform that will let him overclock. I don't think Dell's are very friendly O'C boards from the factory.

And what about that 40" and gtx 260? Will it be enough? Like I said sli is in his future, which brings up another set of issues....

The size of the screen is not actually pertinent to performance. By that, I mean that a 19" 1080p monitor will require the exact same amount of video bandwidth as a 60" 1080p monitor. All that matters is the "1080p". A 260GTX should do fine with 1080p. If it's a 720p, it'll be a cakewalk, but let's hope that's not the case.

Hey yall this is "the friend"

yea the tv is 1080P and I know I overspent on the new stuff (including the super-overpowered PS that dimms lights across the city when I turn on my comp).

If I can find it cheaper I will return the stuff to newegg and just get a refund.

Maybe you can figure out a way to hook up your disco ball and lava lamps to it. That way when you are listening to Basshunter, it can all be done through ur PC. Be sure to use sound reactive lighting in the case.

Say hello to the Corsair TX750 with four PCIe 6+2 connectors,priced 99 after MIR,its a great deal,good for GTX 260 SLI in the future.

And you could always use a Molex to PCIe cable with the original PSU to get 2 PCIe connectors...
