yourbitterend Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I have recently been trying to get my pc to play a game called Crysis at a level which is suitable for online play. I purchased a bfg 250gts 1gb oc version for $149.99 + t I put it in a machine with an Asus P5L-MX mobo, 1x2 GB kingston PC-5300 and an E2200 oc'd to roughly 2.9ghz Im running an EA650 earthwatts psu and a seagate 7200rpm sata harddrive. I installed driver version 186.05 from www.guru3d.com On high settings in game i get average of 20-25 fps i guess, with drops into the upper teens during heavy action... My main questions are: Is my cpu causing this main lack of performance? If I upgraded Cpu to something Core 2 duo 3.0ghz and kept the 250gts would it be the same as keeping my current E2200 and upgrading gpu to a 275gtx or better? Where should I upgrade 1st if my budget is under $
Verran Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 On that budget, you should go up to 4GB of memory or look at getting an E8400.

ccokeman Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Crysis on High with a G92 card is a little tough. When I Tested the 9800GTX+ From Asus these are my results with a Q6600,4GB of memory 2x AA and Medium settings here The 9800GTX is the same card as the GTS 250. What resolution are you playing at? maj0rgamer Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) On that budget, you should go up to 4GB of memory or look at getting an E8400. +1 on that... but even that, on crysis (it's very, very much a resource hog) is probably only going to keep things at a stable 20-30 fps. if you really want to run crysis it's probably going to require a quad core cpu such as a q6600 or i7 and another one of those gts 250's in sli... but even then, it's still probably not going to surprise you with performance on that game. check out some benchmarks run with crysis... it's a serious resource hog. yourbitterend Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 i play @ 1600x900 native on 20" Should we expect unreleased games within the next 6 months to even be worse than crysis? (as far as hardware requirements) I just want to be able to play at a playable rate, i don't want to run low settings but they dont have to be ultra high either
maj0rgamer Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) not at all... crysis is simply a resource hog. any other game should run just fine. are you running vista or xp? 32 or 64bit? if using vista 64 bit, you should atleast upgrade to 4GB of ram... if using xp wouldn't worry about it at all, and if using vista 32-bit you should atleast look into another 1GB as it cannot utilize but around 3.25GB or ram. yourbitterend Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 crysis isnt even fun, its just what a bought at the time. I might just upgrade my cpu, to something fairly powerful and keep the gts... afterall ill have roughly 3 months to trade up the card... maj0rgamer Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 yea, lol... crysis is basically just really good graphics, the gameplay isn't the best. if you upgrade cpu and ram (assuming you're using a 64-bit operating system), that system should be sitting very nice
yourbitterend Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 32 bit vista

Does Crysis make use of quads?
