hi6908 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I have an Intel Q9650(3.00ghz) that I want to overclock. Only problem is, the motherboard doesn't OC at all without crashing. Is it possible to force a multiplier higher than 9 or keep the motherboard at its original clock, but OC the CPU?
Verran Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 No. That chip has a locked multiplier and there's no getting around it. I think you should be more concerned with your motherboard's behavior, myself.
pkilway Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I'm assuming it all works properly at stock speeds. What are you overclocking your fsb to when your pc clashes?

hi6908 Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Actually, it is working now. The board has a "fsb hole", so I had to OC it past the lower levels I had been trying it at for it to work. Now its at 3.5 ghz and perfectly stable. I was also wondering how much if any should i try to OC my ram (AData, 4g(2x2) 800mhz, 5-5-5-12)
jgv115 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Change the memory multiplier so you don't OC your RAM. With your RAM you should be able to get to 400FSB in synchronized mode before your RAM would have to be overclocked.
hi6908 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 The ram can be overclocked independently on nvidia chipsets, so I'm leaving the fsb where it is. My question was, how much would it be safe to OC it?
