XxHellxRaizerxX Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I have the BIOSTAR TA790GX 128M motherboard and the ABS El Diablo case. I cannot get my front USB to work via the headers. I have tried all three of them and have looked everywhere in the BIOS and in the manual to see if there was anything special to activate them. I even emailed BIOSTAR and they said they should come on automatically. I checked the wiring and it matches the motherboard pin layout. My only lead really is I read somewhere about the most recent BIOS update for my motherboard (the update for Phenom IIs) was having problems with USB but I can't seem to find any evidence to back that up. I have no way of testing the motherboard with other devices and no other motherboards with USB headers to test the case (stupid Dell/Compaq). If you guys have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. I have emailed ABS and they are also working on it, but in the mean time I just wanted to check with you guys.
The Smith Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 There is usually a little PCB on which these wires are connected. Did you check it? Was everything fine?
XxHellxRaizerxX Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Sorry, might sound a little dumb but I'm not quite sure what you mean. Still kinda early for me If you mean where the wires connect to the USB plugs, the wires just seem to make direct contact with the metal contacts in the actual plugs, no PCB to be seen. Crazy_Nate Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Where the USB front connectors are, there's usually a small PCB attached (on the backside - you might have to take parts of the case off)
XxHellxRaizerxX Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Yea I have the front I/O pulled out but the wires just make direct contact with the metal contacts in the USB plugs, no PCB.
XxHellxRaizerxX Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Here is a pic. The USB is in the center Edited June 11, 2009 by XxHellxRaizerxX
Crazy_Nate Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Are the devices you're using ones that require power from the USB connection? You could try playing with the power source headers (see if it makes any difference for 5V versus 5Vsb). I don't really see any other useful jumpers or BIOS option. Do you have another internal to external USB cable?
XxHellxRaizerxX Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 No, I have nothing to test the headers or USB cables with. I have seen the jumper and have moved it but it's for Stand By Power for the rear ports only. I have hunted through the BIOS and manual and I don't see anything that could activate them. BIOSTAR customer support said they "should" just work automatically.
XxHellxRaizerxX Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I just tested my front USB part from my case on another motherboard and it works, so it's something to do with my motherboard.. great.
