need some info on i7

Recommended Posts

hey all, i recently thought of upgrading my G31 motherboard to a P45 motherboard and E8400. Although ive heard that i5 is right around the corner. Will i7 be better than i5 causing the prices of i7 to go up? When will i5 hit the shelves? If i7 will beat i5 anyday ill skip the P45 and save for a few months until i can afford an i7 but it needs to be before i5 comes out.

i5 was going to be released next month, but they delayed it to september. I5 is a mainstream variant for the i7, which means its cheaper, and targeted to the mainstream rather than enthusiast (which is what i7 is targeted at). Thats why u see i7 prices are bloody high now.

They won't move, but the lower end model (920) will very likely be phased

dam, thats the cheapest one. im considering skipping my P45 upgrade and waiting until the end of august to maybe get a i7 920

If you work in retail and have access to Intel's Retail Edge program you can pick up the i7 920 for $129 bucks starting June 17th

i dnt meet the requirements of participating in the intel retail edge but thanx anyway. does the core i7 or X58 motherboard have a minimum power supply requirement? Will i need to upgrade my power supply for it?

It'll be fine. While i7/X58 draws more power than C2D/P35, your current 550W will be enough.

I think that's a sign they are phasing them out. Processor's hitting retail edge usually are nearing end of life. Still an excellent deal though :)
