Nekroze Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 hey all i have been away a bit working on RL and my new PC but i just got one of my new pieces in and it is so beyond reasoning (to me at least) why this thingo wont work first up it is a lil product which is what i think a very nifty little idea from Vantec however it is not actually on their website AT ALL! which stuck me as rather odd: its the Vantec All-in-1 Internal Card Reader with Multi-Function Panel. the beef is though first up there is one solid cable coming from it, by that i mean only one that cannot be removed, it is a four pin cable that looks kinda like the PW Switch jumper cables that go from mobo to case but its four pinned, the only markings on it is for each pin; Vcc, -,+,Gnd. so the only real thing that i could corrospond to that pinning that would make sense is the first four pins per row in the USB connectons from the mobo. so i plugged that in, which i was then rather justified to do as one of the other cables that plugs into the product itself is a "usb" connection which goes out to the exact same plug. so i put them both in differect first four pins of different USB connectors on the mobo. fair enough the rest had: CPU/VGA/HDD thermo sensors (stuck now on each corrosponding peice), 3 pin fan headers for CPU/VGA/HDD (once again connected them up to the fans corrosponding), HDD led (SIMPLE!), Power (went into standard Molex) and a SATA lead i guess for the eSATA port on it. so by this time i was a tad agrovated as i had to squeeze my rather large hands around the radiator an tubes and such but i got through all that(i admit i did get the dremel out and rip a new hole in the case litterally, for my hand to plug em in properly) and had everything connected up... seemingly perfectly! so i turned it on and blam..... the LCD screen(which looks like a mini drive bar and u push it and the screen pops out and lifts up looks sweet... anyway) it showed up all the lights and colors that it had... and thats it. every diget and every symbol is all light up. no actual number showing the temp or fan speed no HDD working flashes everything just stays on... what the heck. i have played with multiple configurations and such and nothing happens. firstly... YES there was a driver disc up alas it was only to install the card reader bellow the LCD and only needs/can be used on windows 95.... i dont think i need it... still i did try it and it wouldnt even install as much as i think it would matter seeing as it is for the card readers only. so if sorry to be so long winded but pleas guys i need some help on this one thanks! Zertz Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Try disconnecting everything except power and see what you get. Then plug the fan connectors The pinout you mention is indeed USB, double check those connections. Your board's manual should have the pin layout for those USB headers. Anyways, keep that for last
Nekroze Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 sorry for the late reply have been away for a day on family businesses. its a tad late tonight so will try that in the morrow (although i may just get bored and do it anyway.) Thanks a heap for the first suggestion on help. i know that at least one of the two usb headers works(both are plugged in exactly the same way just different ports) because the usb port on it works. so at the moment it a very overpriced 5.25" drive bay 1slot usb hub hope it dose work though will me pissy if not. thanks!
