wildman2 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 My router went belly up so i'd like to connect pc 2 to pc 1 and both use internet.Don't care if pc has to be on for other to connect.Pc 1 has 2 gigabit connections on board pc2 has 1 100Mbs connection on boared.I have a crossover cable and access to a floppy.Do I use internet connection sharing? This will be a temp setup until I put together a wireless network in the house. At that time I'll have some questions bout that setup.Did a quik looky here didn't find what I was looking for.If a guide of sorts is here point me to it.Not to up on networking stuff so dummy it up for me if possible.THX in advance. Bbrian Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) Connect pc1 to the internet and then take your crossover cable and from the second gigabit port connect pc1 to pc2. On pc1, go to control panel-->network connections and bridge your first gigabit port to the second gigabit port going to the other computer. I believe that is all that will be necessary but I might be missing something, haven't done this in forever. Try googling how to bridge connections or something. hardnrg Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Assuming you use Windows: Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Vista: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...2b14771033.mspx XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/n...d_02july01.mspx
jgv115 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I thought router's have multiple ethernet slots? You have a few options. 1) PC 1 much have dual ethernet. Connect a crossover cable from PC1 to PC2 then connect a cable from PC1 to router. Then bridge the 2 local area connections. 2) PC 1 must have wifi. Then connect a crossover cable from PC1 to PC2 then bridge wireless connection and local area connection together.

wildman2 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Well neither worked...I think it may have something to do with the DSL modem and pppoe.
