Overclocking with Windows 7 Issue

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Firstly my specs are...

AMD Phenom X3 Toliman 2.3Ghz Processor AM2+ Socket.

Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe Motherboard

4gb OCZ Platnium DDR2 1066mhz Ram

500gb Seagate Barracuda Sata 32mb Buffer

Nvidia Geforce 9800GT Ultimate Series

Ok, recently ive been running Windows Professional XP 32-bit for awhile and was able to get a stable overclock at 2.8Ghz CPU speed at 1100Mhz Ram speed. I had to lower the multiplier of the HT link so i could achieve this with this processor, but it seems that trying to run it at 3.2Ghz will work but will cause a memory dump error not too long after windows xp starts up. Now i recently Installed Windows 7 RC Beta onto another hard drive while my system was at default stock settings. After installing Windows 7, i reapply my Staple overclock of 2.8Ghz and boot windows 7 up. When the logo appears it will do its little animation thing then it will freeze. Upon restarting and trying again i got to the login screen when it froze again. And last time i tried I actually got into windows, but then got a BSOD and memory dump. Im wondering if there is something i have to do in order to overclock my system and run windows 7 at the same time, because its a staple overclock but seems Windows 7 doesnt like it. Is this just a Windows 7 Bug thing or compatibility thing or something completely different? So far the only way i can run Windows 7 is keeping my processor at stock setting of 2.3Ghz.

This is windows 7 telling you your overclock is NOT stable. I stated in an earlier thread that windows 7 is very touchy when it comes to overclocking and you will get BSODs quite often until you reach a stable BIOS setting. I have found windows 7 to be a great OC test in and of itself... while in Vista I could boot up and run Prime for 10 mins or so before getting errors, Windows 7 will actually BSOD before even getting into prime with the same settings. Just consider it Windows saving you the time of running stress tests. :P

Yes, I got the same thing as you. I ran OCCT on Windows 7 with my OC BSOD straight away.

I went on XP, no problamo!

In the end I just upped the vcore, then I had no problems.
