New Phenom II Build

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is probably my first time in building gaming PC..

Here is the possible specifications:

AMD X3 720 BE

Biostar TA 790 GX A3+ or MSI 790GX-G65 (Both AM3 sockets)

DDR3 --> Need suggestion, but only for the one under $70

HIS HD 4770 512MB --> Quite doubtful, could it support gaming in 1650*1050 monitor?

WDC 640 GB

PSU --> Need suggestion, I'm going to do some overclock with my PC later

Thanks for any quick replies, going to order soon, in the next 11 hours perhaps, it's midnight here..

4770 should be more than enough for 1680x1050 resolution.

looks like ram is covered in the above post.

if you want room to grow and have more than enough power for now, the corsair tx750W power supply is really good...

if simply wanting something for now, the antec truepower listed above should be just fine.

I say 'meh' to the DDR3. Drop to an AM2+ board and DDR2 memory and use the savings for a better video card. DDR3 will have basically no noticeable effect on the performance of this build, but an extra $20-30 in video would go a long ways.

What's the total budget for this build?

The total budget is about $650 to $700..

Vut, most stuffs are pricey here...

Thanks for all the replies, here is my possible final specifications:

AMD X3 720 BE

Biostar TA 790 GX A3+

DDR3 OCZ Fatality PC10666 2X2GB

Power Color HD 4770 512MB

WDC 640 GB

PSU FSP Bluestorm II

Please give some comments, thanks

You say things are price there. Are you not in the US? Should I not spec out a build with newegg?

Also, have you looked into how much better of a video card you could get if you went DDR2 instead?

@Verran: Thanks for the offer, but I have already ordered the video card and motherboard just now..

I've made my mind that I'd use AM3 platform, so that I could upgrade my PC later easier..

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions..
