Miek Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 (edited) I won't list what I have chosen as I want this to be as unbiased as possible. I'll match recommendations against my choices to see if I chose well. What are some good cooling solutions for the Phenom II X4 940? I'm pretty sure it's a socket AM2+. Thanks for your help! tfireaper Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Its actually Socket AM3 same pinout, except to be an AM3 the board will use the CPU's integrated memory controller which supports DDR3\DDR2. Someone correct my statement if I'm wrong. Anyways, I had a friend use his Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer (120mm) with his Phenom II and it worked pretty well. Mine works quite well, even though I have just an Athlon. Its very quiet. Only issue I have is that it nearly covers the RAM, but I don't overclock that anyways. TheConqueror Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 WRONG, Phenom II 940 is strictly AM2+ If it was AM3, NOBODY would get a Phenom II
Baulten Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 TheConqueror is right; The 940 is Socket AM2+, not AM3. I use the Xigmatek s1283, and it keeps it sub 30C at stock settings (idle), with around 20-25C ambient.
tfireaper Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 woops, my bad, original post edited. i thought all Phenom IIs were AM3... i thought wrong. anyways, try the Core Contact Freezer!
MrAlex Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) The BEST for AMD is Thermalright Ultra 120, then it's the Spire Thermax II and then the Sunbeam CCC. Note: You need to buy fans yourself for the Thermalright. Edited June 7, 2009 by MrAlex
