shiver_8 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Just recently I noticed that during intensive activities (like gaming) especially COD4, my monitor will dim and brighten continuously on its own. Like when I go to select my class every different class makes the screen go a different brightness (sounds stupid, I know) at some points when I am being shot at the screen will go so dim I can't even see what I'm doing. But a second later it will be fine. I know this isn't just the game because it happens on startup too as well as just opening the internet and small programs. What causes this to happen? It is really annoying I'm just wondering if the video card is wonky or something.
00stevo Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Well obviously its your monitor or gfx card thats at fault.Try a different monitor and if it goes away, you'll know what the problem is.It happens on my cousins 17in lcd as well.I reckon its dying a slow death. Dr_Frankenstein Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Your screen doesn't have Dynamic Contrast does it? if it does turn it off, My Samsung 2433bw has this feature and its pointless because it takes like a second to work out what its going to do with the back light
premiumgfx Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Either it's the video card or a dynamic contrast problem. What monitor do you have? The worst case scenario could be a faluty backlight.
shiver_8 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Yea but the thing is I have 2 monitors hooked up and it's happened to both of them at the same time, so what are the chances of 2 monitors going out at the same time. I think it's the graphics card, it's a 9800GTX+ that I overclocked the . out of, but clearly it is now failing on me. Oh well. At least the high end ATI cards are really cheap now. shiver_8 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Any suggestions on a new card?
nVidia_Freak Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 What monitors? That sounds exactly like dynamic contrast.
shiver_8 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 (edited) Samsung Syncmaster T240 and T220. Edited June 6, 2009 by shiver_8
shiver_8 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 OMG wow. Yeah it was dynamic contrast, whats weird is it turned on by itself. I had my contrast setting set to "game" but I guess when I disconnected the monitors yesterday it reset for some reason? Stupid but at least it's fixed now. But I also wanted to ask what is a good video card for the $ right now for ATI since I have an ATI board and I plan to get one card now (don't know if it will be an X2 yet) and run it with my 9800 for Physx (I've read this can be done) and then when I have more money I'll sell the 9800 and get another ATI card for crossfire. Anyways any suggestions? Also I wanted to know about the differences between the 4850X2 and 4870X2 and if the extra price jump is worth it for the 4870X2. Lots of questions lol just want some opinions.
