Asus Crosshair Motherboard HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Was wondering if you could offer your advise!

Its been a very long time since I have played around with PC hardware so I think I need some help from you guys/gals!

I got an ASUS CROSSHAIR motherboard off ebay for an absolute steal yesterday and I will slowly be buying other parts for it for a complete pc upgrade. I am confused though whether the board accepts AM2+ cpus or not. Many people have told me that it doesnt but the asus website says it does. What cpus can I get for it?? AM2 or AM2+?

ALSO..... It has 4 ram sockets. Whats the best combo? I was planning on buying 4gb of ram. Is it best to buy 2x2gb at 800mhz? Or 4 x 1gb at 800mhz?

Maybe if someone could just tell me anything else I might need to know about this board it would be great!

This is the Asus crosshair motherboard not the II one.

Heres the link where I bought it

many thanks for any help!!

The mb seems to support am2+ processors but not am3

true am2+ boards support am3 cpu's...

My guess is that the board is an am2 an that am2+ compatible is with am2 and am3.

just check the cpu support list on the asus site before you buy a processor.

The board officialy supports first generation Phenom's (Link). Google is your friend, but Phenom II might also work

2x 2GB is generally better

I hope you realize the Crosshair is a relatively old board, it was on my short list back in 2006 ;)
