Police officer uses Taser on male student at High School

I could make a thread like this every week and I realize we've had a few discussions like this already.

Police officer uses Taser on male student at High School

will likely face multiple criminal charges including a felony count of assaulting an officer
*sigh*

We all have our opinions, I will respect everyone here for what their opinion is.

Here is my opinion based on what I've gathered from reading the article posted on a few sites:

  • I agree the kid was violating the rules of the "school" (obviously you don't want a bunch of unruly kids running around but these instances are minor)
  • Notice the key word school
  • Now lets take into account what rules were broken;
    1. being out of his scheduled class 2. using a cellphone for non-emergency purposes
  • So now an officer of the law (not an officer of the school rules mind you) touches said person in attempt to make him go somewhere
  • Said person forcibly removes that officers body part off of his own persons space
  • The officer "allegedly" (I do not believe this, however it could be true) felt as if he were shoved to the extent that this individual was threatening his life
  • The officer then bitched out and decided that "BLARGH! I'm better than you, see this badge you little prick!" he would use a god damn taser to bring down said student (regardless of the manner in which it was used)
  • Said student had every right to remove the cop from his personal space
  • Said officer did NOT have the right (yeah I said it, NO RIGHT!) given what circumstances I've gathered to even approach said students space
  • Said officer then decided that he didn't appear to be a big enough B1TCH and that he would increase such a level by charging this student with "felony count of assaulting an officer" among other things.

You've all read this from me before.

That officer is no better than any person on this earth.

I value every persons life the same amount, I don't care who you are:

  • The president
  • A congressman/woman
  • A mayor
  • A police officer
  • A firefighter
  • Jesus Christ
  • A man
  • A woman

Who you are and what you do is irrelevant, your job title (regardless of what it is) should not allow any legal rights over the standard individual.

If I shoot the president in the head vs. a random guy walking down the street do you honestly believe that I should get a heavier punishment?

If I push a random guy should i get less of a punishment vs. pushing a police officer?

No really, honestly think about it...

Think what you will of me for what I just posted, it won't bother me one bit as I'll think the same of you as I did before.

Just remember I don't judge you guys for you opinions, quite a lot of us disagree on many things (sometimes some people have ridiculous opinions on things) and I still think the same of you regardless.

Lets hear your opinions on this as if you actually had the ability to make any outcome occur to any of the people...

I think the cop had no right to do that, that being said police seem to be getting way to taser happy these days.

Scenario:Dude don't touch me, I don't wanna go to class and I'm on the phone, can this wait? VVRRRAAAPPP!!! (sound of taser) Not Justified.

Scenario 2:Dude don't touch me, I'll effen knife you! VVRRAAAPPP!!! Justified.

It depends on the situation I guess but in this one I say the cop should face some charges.

The idea of Tazers is to prevent physical fights period.

"The student ignored the officer, who then took him by the arm to escort him to the office," Burton said. "But the student resisted and pushed the officer."

Pushing the officer is assault. With that being said I was not there so I did not see what took place. Being that the officer was escorting the student who decided to resist is being physical.

There is alot of bogus situations where a tazer is not used properly and this could very well be one of them I really don't know. What people have to remember is a Tazer is a tool like everything else if you take that away cops will go back to their guns for a line of defense and you can bet more people will be killed because of it.

Exactly what I was thinking!

While I think the officer was within his rights to use that force. I think the felony count of assaulting an officer is a bit ridiculous, I mean come on we were all in high school at one time, we were all rebellious in that point of our lives. If it was just a push to get away from the officer then let it go its not like the student was physically throwing punches to injure the officer. He was already in trouble for not being in class. Give him a truancy ticket and let it rest...

When you resist you deserve whats coming to you. Like bosco said its a tool. Should the officer have pistol whipped him? beat him with a baton? Used a choke hold? Young kids have no respect for authority. Many feel the rules don't apply to them and are hard headed to boot. I know I was once one of those youths and have a 19 year old son who is a good kid but......

If you listen and comply without a smart @@@ remark you can avoid the BS.

Well in a school setting when the kid is a minor I think officers need to be more responsible with the force they use. I think that the use of the taser was the best option avaible to the officer, and like you said he could of used his pistol, or baton. In which case the officer would likely be in some trouble himself for using excessive force for the situation.

the general rule for an officer is to use a tool that is one above what the aggressor is using.

Knife -> Gun

Gun -> Gun

Physical -> Baton

Physical -> Mace (pepper spray)

Minor Resistance -> Taser
