xPETEZx Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) Hi All! My XFX 8800GTX just died. Had just started up Bioshock, when all of a sudden, system shut down. I hit the power to try start-up again, and nothing. Just a little pop from the system speaker. Started to try eliminate components, and found that if I took the 8800 out, my PC would power up. So tried putting the 8800 in my second rig, and that wouldent boot either. So I tried it with NO PCIe Power connected, and this time the PC booted, and the speaker made that hoffirc screech. Powered off, and plugged just the front PCIe power connector in, and again, it booted but screeched. I then tried just the back PCIe power connector, and nothing would happen. Just wouldn't even screech or power up the PC at all. Then I put the card in one more time, with all power connected, and this time I heard a pop, and smoke came from the back of the card, right next to the PCIe power connectors. Seems like something in the power regulation went! Whats XFX like for RMA's? They care that I took the stock cooler off? Well, this MAY just accelerate my purchase of a new card. Suggestions? Crazy_Nate Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I would have started the RMA before purchasing. If they don't have the same model card, they will "upgrade" you to something more current I'm sure XFX is fine, but it might take longer in the UK. Most manufacturers don't care if you've taken the cooler off. Just put it back on before you send it off
Bosco Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I sent a 8800GTX XXX into them for warranty about a month ago. Two weeks later I had a 9800GTX+ as the replacement they were very easy and quick to deal with

xPETEZx Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Couldn't find a specific "button" to RMA the card on the XFX site, but sent a ticket with a description. I have to be honest, the 4890 did cross my mind, but last time I had an ATi card it left a saur flavour. So not really eger to go back, while the last 2 cards I have had (8800GTS 640 & 8800GTX) have been fantastic! The drivers are more stable, and everything just feels more refined. xPETEZx Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Update on the 8800GTX RMA to XFX Europe: They have told me I need to RMA the product through the e-trailer I purchased it. However, the card was given to me as a gift/swap, and I have totally lost touch/fallen out with the person who gave it to me. So I cannot send it back to the place of purchase, as I have no idea where it was bought from, or do I have any contact information left for the person who gave it to me. The only thing they have offered me is to send the card in as a part exchange for a new card. (Me paying the difference) I have replied informing them they will NOT be getting my buissness in future. I have NEVER had to RMA a product the retailer before. (unless within the first 30 days of purchase) so thats XFX off my list of companies to buy from!
