jinhal Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) Recently bought i7 920/ asus P6T / others ( 6gb ram, 640gb caviar blue hd ...) I didn't know the differences among P6T models at the time I bought P6T. Now i am seriously worrying if the temperature might get too high after OC. (will go around 3.6) according to this article, http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/asus_p6t/22.htm the temp problem could be solved by adding some cooling fans. QUOTE The only real problem I had was that the cooling on the chipset was a little suspect and was extremely hot to the touch when pushing the clock speeds on the processor and memory. A quick fix is to have a fan blowing cool air over the heatsink to reduce the operating temperatures. UNQUOTE Since I know nothing about building up computers (one of my friend will assemble it) , I am not quite sure if CPU fan will fulfil the duty. I am planning to buy Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme 1366 RT CPU Cooler for my CPU but should I buy more cooling method ? If so, could you recommend any? Thanks in advance. ccokeman Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 A 60 mm fan blowing on the chipset heatsink would be a big help. The other thing is to keep the IOH volts as low as you can and dont ratchet them up until you have to. The TRUE cooler does work quite well. I use 2 2000 RPM Scythe Kaze fans on mine and get load temps in the 40s with stock volts to the CPU. Also for the review I was water cooled so there was no additional airflow over the chipset like you would have with an air cooled heatsink. jinhal Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) Thank! so thermalright + 60mm fan blowing on the chipset will solve the problem ! Edited May 27, 2009 by jinhal

Techfan Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Hi, i am also planning in buying the P6T and i wonder if i will need an fan for the x58 (north chipset) since will put the core I7 920 only @ 3.0ghz and i will use it inside an Cooler Master HAF 922 with one front fan, back fan (exhaust) and a side fan (swaped from the top) and an air cpu cooler (probably a Noctua NH-U12P), Thanks! ccokeman Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 If you are not pushing further than 3.0 you can pretty much run everything at default voltages. At 1.1 volts the chipset heat is not really bad. I was pushing a lot of volts through mine to get to 4.1GHz on my 920 You should be fine with that combo
