Windows 7 RC x64

Hi Guys!

I downloaded Windows 7 RC x64 a while back, and initially tried to use it for my second rig (in sig), which was previously running the 7 x64 BETA fine.

7 installed fine, and initally both Keyboard (PS2) and mouse (USB) worked throughout the set-up process. Then however, once it booted to desktop for the first time, my Logitech G5 mouse did not work. The mouse had its lights on, but would not move the cursor.

So I unpluged it and tried a different USB port. Sure enough 7 starts to detect the device, but then says it could not be installed. I then tried another more basic mouse, an old MS mouse, which was also USB. Again, 7 did the same thing, telling me it could not be installed.

I then tried another USB device, just to make sure the ports worked, and I was able to use a USB pen drive, and a USB HDD. For kicks, I then tried my MS Sidewinder 2 Joystick, which is old USB 1, and 7 again did the same thing as for the mice, saying it could not be installed.

To fully rule out the USB ports on the 680i being a problem, I put in a Belkin PCI USB card, which installed fine. I then plugged various mice into it (Dimondback, G5, MS mouse), and even installed the drivers for each, but none would work.

Frustrated, I figured it was just a bad install or something, so I just shut it down and put the Vista disk back in the rig and left it.

Well, since I was having some trouble with Bioshock on my main rig (see here), and I couldent USE DX10, I thought, why not put 7 on this machine on a spare drive, and test out if Bioshock runs ok on that. 1. to rule out any hardware problems, and 2. just to try out Ambient Occlusion and DX10 graphics!

Well, I installed 7 onto my old Raptor drive, and during inital setup, both my G5 & G15 worked perfectly. I managed to select which drive to install too what language etc. But then, when 7 booted up the first time, and asked me to enter my Name, and to name the computer, neither the G15 or G5 worked. On the G15, just the num-lock light was on, and on the mouse, just the DPI LEDs.

Again I tried all ports on the back of my PC, and some other USB devices, to no avail.

PS2 keyboards and mice work fine. But thats not much good to me, as I do NOT want to game or use those old devices!!

At first I figured it was a bad install on my second rig, but then when my main rig (with totally different hardware) had the same issues, I began to think, the problem must be with 7!

Anyone know of a fiX?

Thanks!!
