Syngensmyth Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) One day my trusty Ultra-D powered by the infamous OCZ PowerStream 520 (with lights for voltage) decided not to boot. Actually nothing would happen except for a little yellow light on the mobo. When I pull the main mobo power connector and jump the PSU, the OCZ springs to life in all it's green light glory and mobo does 4 reds (I have the mobo out of the case and nothing plugged in). Thinking it could still be a flaky PSU, I tried a new one. Same thing. I suppose the mobo is shorting out ... any other ideas? I will try anything including water boarding. GabrielT Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Well if everything was plugged in a short could be anywhere but with everything unplugged its hard to say. This isn't very likely but I once shut off a computer by shoving a paper clip into a usb port you could check those I guess but that would be VERY unlikely. Other than that my friend the mobo sure sounds dead to me.
maj0rgamer Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 yes, like the above poster stated it seems to be a bad motherboard... had one not so long ago doing the same sort of thing after a power surge. replaced the motherboard and all has been well. Syngensmyth Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) I have lost 2 motherboards and 1 power supply now on that circuit. Time for a line conditioner. (slow learner) Edited May 25, 2009 by Syngensmyth
