First Water Cooling System - SLi

Recommended Posts

Hi, new here and looking for a little advice / info please.

I recently broke my pc case so am purchasing a new one, so i thought i would sieze the opportunity to install a water cooling system in the process.

My system is the following

CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz Socket 775

Motherboard: XFX Nforce 680i LT

Grphix Card: 2x Inno 3D nVidia Geforce 8800GT 1GB SLi'd up.

Im looking for advice on what cooler cooling kit to use to cool my Graphics card + CPU and a reasonably priced case that would suit my needs. Ideally i would like a complete kit so easy to put together or a list of items i would need to make sure its done correctly.

Systems used primarily for FPS games if it makes a difference :)

Thanks for your time

Mercian

I'm not sure about the GPU water blocks, as I've never water-cooled those cards, but I'll give you some options if you can handle the GPU block research on your own.

Option 1:

1 x Swiftech MCR-320 Triple 120MM Rad

1 x Swiftech Apogee GTZ CPU Block

2 x GPU Blocks of your choice

1 x Swiftech MCP-355 Pump

3 x Medium Speed Yate Loon Fans from Petra

Tubing of your choice

Options 2:

2 x Swiftech MCR-220 Dual 120 Rad

1 x DTek Fuzion CPU Block

2 x GPU Blocks of your choice

2 x Swiftech MCP-355 Pump

4 x Medium Speed Yate Loon Fans from Petra

Tubing of your choice

Now, option 1 will be cheaper but option 2 will provide for better cooling by offering separate loops for CPU and GPU. If you have any questions or give a more firm budget then I will be glad to help out.

I recently did a water setup to, becoz i'm anewbie to it I got an all in one setup the gigabyte 3d mercury. But i've quickly changed most of the parts on it, like Nuclear recommends I got the Swiftech Apogee GTZ for my cpu also I changed the crappy gigabyte 120mms with 5xScythe 1900RPM fans. I want to change the rad also from a single to a double or maybe even a triple as i'm cooling C2Q and GTX295 but I don't have the space in the case so I might have to mod it outside the case.

If I were you i'd go for option1 that Nuclear sugests ;)

A1: You do not have to run a reservoir but it certainly makes filling / bleeding much easier. If you don't have a lot of room to play with I would recommend the XSPC rez top for the MCP-355. It works very well and fits in small places. The Swiftech micro-rez and any of the EK tube style reservoirs are good if you have a little more space. Without a reservoir you simply install a T-Line near the inlet of the pump and fill the system that way.

A2: All of the parts listed above are available in 1/2"ID fittings. I would recommend running 1/2"ID 3/4"OD tubing

A3: The pump has a standard 12V 4 pin molex plug. The fans are standard case fans so just hook everything into a spare molex line and you'll be good to go on power

A4: Full coverage blocks are going to be quite expensive, but there are some good ones out there. I would recommend looking into the EK FC-88 high performance block. It works with the GT/GTS series and EK has always made great blocks. They retail in the states for around $115 a piece, but you may be able to find them cheaper over near you.

Would like to extend my many thanks Nuclear, you have been more than helpful.

If u ever need a kidney gimme a shout ;) lol

If ur gonna go with a water block, you may also want to consider some uv lighting and fluid so if it starts leaking you will be able to see it

on the case bottom. Good luck . :thumbs-up:
