Onion Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Problem: When I boot into windows 7 or vista, my mouse and keyboard don't respond. The OS isn't crashing, then I press the power button to shut it down it shows the shut down screen etc. What happened: It started doing it on my windows 7 hard drive all of a sudden. I stopped using it 2 days ago when it happened, and I got into vista. Vista ran fine for 2 days, until today. Keyboard and mouse don't respond when I am at the log in screen. I can get into bios fine etc. What I tried: I tried popping in the windows 7 disc and doing error checks, no errors. I tried to do the repair problems thing, and when I booted I still had the problems. What I want: Help! D: Help asap, I really need that pc up and running. Coors Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) It doing it on both hdds with different OS's would make me think it could be a hardware problem. USB controller may be failing. Try different usb ports like on the front of the case? Edited May 20, 2009 by Raiderfan001

redtigerdragon Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I'd have to agree that if it is happening on 2 different hard drives, it is a hardware problem (either with the keyboard and mouse or the usb ports).
r3d c0m3t Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Try using a PS/2 adapter if you have one. If it works, then you know it's one of the ports and not the keyboard or mouse. Possibly shorted out or such a problem thereof.

Possibly shorted out or such a problem thereof. I tried my front USB ports and all of them also works. Both the mouse and keyboard are on and function properly in bios etc, but as soon as the vista splash screen with the loading bar shows up, the mouse power turns off, and the keyboard doesn't respond. All the keyboard shows is that number lock is on. I'm using a G11 and G5. I am pretty sure this is a software error, but I have no idea what, and how to fix it. upok Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I'd try using a ps2 mouse and keyboard. If that works, then it's probably a usb driver problem. Odd that it happened on both os at the same time but who knows. Does the compy work with ps2 peripherals?
9KRacing Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Try deleting your drivers, unpluging the periphirals and then plugging them back in and see if Vista finds them and installs new drivers.
