ant0215 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I am new to overclocking, I have a amd phenom x4 64 chip. I use my computer for flight simulators just wondering if I can get some more speed. I have tried to update my bios settings but there is nothing in it to adjust to overclock my rig. I am just wondering if its possible. I have a gateway computer with windows vista 64 installed. Thanks for the help in advance.
Crazy_Nate Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Welcome! Typical OEM motherboards found in computers like Gateway usually have very limited BIOSes with many options simply not existing or disabled. A consumer performance motherboard would remedy that! fire_storm Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Most name brand computers aren't overclockable because manufacturers lock those advance settings in the bios to prevent users from tampering with them or damaging the computers by accident or purposely. Unforchantly most of the time there is no patch that will un-lock these settings. So if you want to overclock your going to have to get another motherboard that supports those settings. GabrielT Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Yeah these guys are right, most consumer level boards do no support bios overclocking becuase they don't want granny muckin around in ther trying to run her new comp at 4Ghz on stock cooling. Computer companies are making more idiot proof products and we are countering by making better idiots.
