uneedav8 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Since my state California is bankrupt, it makes sense that more revenue generators are appearing. There seems to be a large increase of red light cameras, more traffic stops, and cars being towed. Even noticed that some cars are being ticketed for vehicle codes violations while in a parking lot. Anyone else notice this? Just curious.
sYstEmATiC Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) Our city (middletown, OH) has had traffic cams for about 3 years now. Its the only city around here that has the traffic light cam's. Other than that, everything is still pretty much the same as it has always been. Do police even have the authority to give out tickets to parked cars on private property? Obviously the car has to move onto the road to get there but thats besides the point. Unless its on a gov't owned lot, the rules of the road do not apply on private property. This sounds like a question for kash. Can police give tickets for vehicle code violations to cars on private property? tmann8869 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I live in Central Florida and there is a cam at almost every light! Just happened about 6 months ago. Before there were only like 1 or 2 around but now they are everywhere!!!!
psycho_terror Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 i picked a friend up from the airport a few days ago and had to go through several miles of road with lowered speed limit for some minor roadworks. cameras were placed on bridges every few hundred metres, and the limit dropped from 70 to 50 to 40 and down to 20 for a brief period. going by the camera flashes i saw 6 people get a speeding fine in a matter of minutes. that stretch of road must be pulling in thousands a day. LoArmistead Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I think the People's Republic of NC is too broke to afford more camera, but I have definitely noticed traffic stops increasing a LOT over the past six months. On stretches of road that used to never have a single police officer on them, I now seem them pulling people over every single day. There are also more speed traps randomly placed around town to get some more moving violation revenue. State troopers are doing the same on the highways. It's no secret our state's deficit for this fiscal year is over $5 Billion, but when the politicians promise you everything under the sun without wanting to raise your taxes exponentially to pay for it... be weary. The voters in our state were stupid and thought the state government would just raise income taxes on the top 10% to pay for their doubled state spending. Needless to say, it didn't quite work out... but that's what happens when a central authority tries to pick winners and losers. And yet, the roads are just as dangerous. -_- And yeah, raising taxes on the top 10% income makers never work- partially because they control the pricing of our economy! It's all about risk and reward. When times are good, the "rich" make more money, but conversely, and this is where politicians can learn something, when times are bad those same rich who prospered during the good times are the same people most apt to lose more in the bad times. Compensation is based on the marginal revenue product of labor; risk and reward. The politicians formulated our state' revenue structure based on a model that only works in good economic times. So, when the bottom fell out of our economy and their main revenue source also went dry, they find themselves in our current situation; billions of dollars in debt and no prospects for how to get out of it. Such is populism.
davidst Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Houston has it's share of cameras and radar. http://www.chron.com/mm/ymap/lightcams/ I bought a $25 radar detector few years back and it has more than paid for itself.
ccokeman Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 They have been in Virginia and Maryland for quite a few years but were deemed illegal for a time but now seem to be back full force. One of my employees got busted a month or so ago. Our Parking enforcement division also has gone High Tech with a roving camera instead of the good ole meter maid. We got a warning ticket on on one of my vehicles sent to us as a friendly reminder that they will begin prosecuting in 1 month. Its nice to know that the people helping bring in additional revenue by doing repair work downtown will get ticketed as a thank you! uneedav8 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 The people in power create all these laws that end up screwing the people. They create laws that can trick some people into believing that they are in place for our own safety. In the end, we know it is just because of the money. This is how the world is.......we are all doomed.

I would think that it is not legal being as how it is private property, kinda like how they have to wait for you to leave the parking lot at the bar before they can pull you over for a sobriety test.
