The Smith Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I've recently wanted to get into Company of Heroes, but there are three versions of the game. I want to play multiplayer most of all, but I want to play the most populated one, and I don't know which one that is. You can play with everyone regardless of your version. Personally I have Opposing fronts and the previous one. You at least need this one so you can play with four different factions. The Tales of Valor does not add much besides a few new units and a few new multiplayer mods. I don't think this is the right word, I just can't think of the real one, but examples of this are 'victory point control' and 'Annihilate'. Oh and it also adds a bit of singleplayer content. So it's up to you which version you want. If you only get up to Opposing fronts, you will be able to play with Tales of Valor people, except they will have access to a few units you won't have. Oh and you won't be able to enter games which play the new mods. Oh well now that I write down all the differences... I think you should go with Tales of Valor . I am sure you can get a 'Gold Edition' with all of them for cheap. But it's been a while since I played. I saw these differences but it was at the beginning of Tales of Valor so people playing it were a minority. I don't know for now though, but as I have said, I changed my mind while writing that, and assuming these people are more numerous now, you should get Tales of Valor. I hope that it was not too complicated to understand Let me know if you have any questions, I can re-explain. In case I fire up that game again, my relic username is 'TheSmith23'. You can add me. tkrow21 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 So, basically, with any game, you can play the CoH content. With OF, you can play with people in OF and CoH. With ToV, you can play with people in ToV, OF, and CoH?
The Smith Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 With any expansion, you can play with any people even if they have a more recent expansion. Suppose you only have the first one, you will be able to play with people that have Opposing Fronts but they will have access to factions that you don't. However, if you don't have Tales of Valor, some games will be locked. You will only have access to the ones which are 'Annihilate' are 'Victory point control'. Krieg1337 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) I would suggest not to buy this game yet, sorry but it has just been pretty bad. The newest patches have ruined the game where things don't shoot right and total crap. You can buy it but don't be surprised if it isn't very fun, the new patch 2.6 which will be coming out like in the summer I guess should fix most of the stuff. Anyways Smith we should play again Oh and here is the basic layout. Regular: Wehrmacht+Americans OF: British+Panzer Elite Gold:Wehrmacht+Americans+British+Panzer Elite ToV:All factions right? I think so anyways, and of course the new units.(Actually I think you have to either have OF or CoH to be able to use ToV as I think it is an expansion, not a standalone game).
