nns Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Please recommend as to which SMPS I should use for the following config: AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE ASUS M4A78T-E DDR3 1333 2x2GB ATI HD 4770 3 SATA HDDs (2 x 160 GB HDD and 1 x 500 GB HDD) I am looking to overclock the 720 BE to 3.4 Ghz and also overclock the HD 4470. I am considering VX450 and VX550 but can't decide which one. Thanks....
Coors Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Whats a SMPS? If you mean PSU the Corsair VX450 should be plenty for that set up.

damian Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 If you can afford it I'd go with the 550W just for some headroom. Mine has been doing excellent with a Core I7 920, 3X2Gb, GTX 260 (core 216), two HDD's.

I'd like some headroom on the buget though Is it worth it to spend the extra $25? I am not looking to upgrade soon or overclock it beyond what I've mentioned. Thanks. damian Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The 450W will be fine then.

hardnrg Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 As far as I know, all computer PSUs are SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply), as it would be impossible to fit a Linear PSU in an ATX form factor PSU case, so you can just ask for simply "PSU", as the SMPS description is implicit/redundant

PSU somehow doesn't sound complete
nns Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I was also hoping if someone could suggest a case on the lines of CM 690 as it is not currently available...
kingdingeling Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 The CM590 is pretty good as well afaik? But if you can somehow find one, get a 690! I have one and I love it to death, excellent case for the money!
