005 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Hello all, I am new to this forum and a novice computer modder. I have been slowly upgrading my computer and recently got a new power supply and hard drive in preparation for this next upgrade. I am not sure which would be more beneficial, a newer processor or a new video card. I'm only looking to go in about 200-250 bucks. I am looking at the new Phenom X4 Deneb or a Radeon 4870. I use my computer for gaming and video editing/visual effects. As it is, my computer works fine for all applications, but a little less than I desire for gaming and seeing all the neat little bells and whistles in these new games that are coming out. I wanna step up and click High instead of Medium or Low! Any advice would be great. Here's my setup: MOBO: Jetway HA04 Extreme CPU: AMD Phenom 9500 Agena 2.2GHz VID: SAPPHIRE Radeon X1650PRO 512MB (2x Crossfired) RAM: Kingston ValueRAM (3 x 1GB) SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) PSU: Corsair 750W HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s MON: Acer 22" Wide 5ms 1680x1050 Thanks, --

maj0rgamer Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) hey, welcome to occ; +1 for video card upgrade. that's not a bad cpu, but why not overclock it some... you should see better results with a 4870 with a faster cpu, but if you can't afford both at the moment then why not get more performance out of what you already have. should be able to squeeze an extra .5 Ghz or so out of that cpu... with a good 3rd party cooler and good cooling... but that's another subject. as far as a next upgrade, a 4870 should really make you happy!
