xPETEZx Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Hi Guys, I have a HR-03+ on my 8800GTX, and on that, I have an Antec Tri-Cool fan. The fan is connected to the mobo, and controlled by it. However, it obviously dosent speed up the fan when the card gets hotter, as it dosent monitor it. I monitor my cards temp using Everest and display it on my G15, and after an hour or so of L4D, the card hits the high 90's in temp. Now, I use to have a fan controler, but I didnt like having to adjust the fan speed myself. Then I realised, the card has a PWM fan header, is there any adapter, or converter I could use, to connect a normal 120mm PWM fan to this header? So that the card takes care of its own fan speed based on temp? Thanks!
davidst Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 You need to be careful that the amperage of the fans are close to the same otherwise you could burn out the header. A 120mm should not be that loud that you could not run it at full. I bought a zalman cooler and did what your talking about by using the wire and plug off the stock unit. this is a 3 pin http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1115/cab...l?tl=g44c34s275
xPETEZx Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) If you have ever owned an Antec Tri-Cool, and are fussy with the noise of your PC, you will understand. They are bloody loud at full whack. At around 1000-1100 rpm, they are bearable. I have been looking at getting a couple of new fans, these spring to mind: Coolermaster PWM fan Artic Cooling PWM Fan ThermalRight FDB fan The 2 PWM fans I would like to use for my CPU and if possible GFX card. The 2 Thermalright fans would be used as Case fans. Other alternative is to use 4x thermalright fans, and just have them either on a fan controller, or full speed all the time. Anyone used any of those fans? Any good? Thanks! Edit: That connector you linked too, is not what I mean. When I say 4pin fans, I do NOT mean Molex connectors, I mean PWM connectors.
