what trend would you like to see in os's?

It seems to me operating systems are becoming bigger, heavier, more robust programs that are allowing you to access tons of different features, programs, and accessibility unheard of in the past. incredibly powerful ui features that not only look incredible but also take up way to many resources....wait....what? uh, they also have loads of programs pre-installed, 80% of which you will never use because there is a faster, easier to use third party option for free on the net, oh my....

not much of a sales man for the new os trend we see arising am i? probably because i don't agree with it.

shouldn't the os just enable you to access the programs you personally dl or install to give you access to features you require?

i think ms would release a way faster, more stable and all around better os if they just cut out all the unneeded junk that seems to be cluttering operating systems lately.

well what about people who dont have the internet and dont want to spend money on loads of software that they were getting for free with vista, 7 ect. well basically, the internet nowadays is a must have, there are very few areas in NA that cant get internet connection of some type whether it be phone, cable or satellite, if you want the full functionality of a pc you are going to need the internet, no two ways about it.

maybe some people like the huge operating system, but if you gave them a choice between a computer with alot of software and functionality or a computer that ran well im betting they would probably go for the latter.

now they have different versions of vista, and 7 i assume will be the same with the ultimate, home, theatre, loaded to the tits, platinum editions and thats not a bad idea, but why not take it a step further, release a super basic pure os version that doesnt even have ie or wmp and allow people to download only what they need.

xp: 1.5gb hd space required

vista:^^ remove the decimal point....nuff said

7: even bigger

i think microsoft needs to take a long hard look at the real world needs of pc users, operating systems should be like cpus, smaller, faster and getting constantly cheaper.

(i though about comparing vista to an overweight hooker but i'll let you use your imagination)

put in your 2 cents, id like to know what you think

While people like things to be faster and better, they also want to get more *stuff* when they do an upgrade. Do you know how many people I talk to about vista that say they love it because of all the pretty things it does. People like to SEE advancement. With the average hard drive being so large why can't the operating system be larger? Microsoft only released one OS that I hated anf that was ME. Certain things do need to be improved upon such as optimization and compatibilities but that's how things usually move along. Remember those horrid Pentium 4 chips? Intel how a downtime. Vista is Microsoft's downtime. Even though I consider Vista to work for me.
