PingoPongo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Im gonna get a new HD 4870 soon. Ive got a few questions about it tho. 1) I think im going to buy a Sapphire card... There are 2 versions of it - the Sapphire's custom cooling and reference cooling. So the custom one exaust half of hot air into the case. Wich cooling solution would keep the card cooler without overheating the inside of the case. (Cooler Master CM 690 case) 2) I saw the HD 4890's review and there ccokeman stated the following: The PCB is the light teal blue that lets you know this is not the reference PCB, but Sapphire's own design that usually incorporates better voltage regulation to drive performance higher. The custom cooled one has that light blue PCB but the reference cooled one has a red PCB. So wich would be a better choice? Wich cooling solution would keep the card cooler without overheating the inside of the case. (Cooler Master CM 690 case) the sapphire cooler is quieter and more effective than the stock cooler, and it won't hurt your case temps as much as you might think. personally i still found it a little too loud for my liking and replaced it with an arctic cooler, but most people aren't as fussy as me so unless you're going for silence it will be more than adequate, and definitely better than stock. PingoPongo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 But about how much would that change the case temp? Like 3 C or more etc...
psycho_terror Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 But about how much would that change the case temp? Like 3 C or more etc... compared to the stock cooler it probably wouldn't be all that noticeable. although i can't say for sure in this specific instance from past experience the difference in case temps between exhaust style coolers and those that dump heat into the case is negligable.
