It's most likely the partition is set as a hidden one and to get access to it you will have to use a program like partition magic to un-hide it.

Partition magic is not compatible with vista :(

Any other suggestions?

I think pretty much any disk partition utility will un-hide a partition but I'm not sure of any good ones that are free.

You can use the Diskpart which is a command line utility that comes with Vista to unhide a partition. I'm not sure of the exact commands you would have to type in to do it but you would probably be able to find them with a quick Google search.

try Knoppix, its a distro of Linux that you can throw on a CDrom and use to copy files that are even hidden from windows. Its worked wonders for me in the past it might not apply to your situation though :-\
