Dariuas Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 So, I am running the system listed in my comment, OC 3.6 running pretty cold temperatures, never over 70c. But when I start playing UT3 my PC shuts down. Anyone have any thoughts?
Crow47 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 70C is pretty high. You really want to be 60C and under. What do you mean precisely "shuts down"? Does it blue screen or does it simply turn off? Or does it freeze and you have to manually restart it?

I mean, its like someone pulled the power from the back of my PC
dr_bowtie Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 update UT3... if it's the install of the CD then it's that...I installed it the otherday of the CD and it crashes to may desktop firing up the game... so I just loaded the key in Steam and play it through Steam instead.... tkrow21 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Video card temperatures?
dr_bowtie Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I kinda missed it but if you're hitting 70c at idle temps then i would back your clocks down a little... While the Zalman 9700 is a great cooler it may not be able to handle the heat output generated by the OC'd 920... once you load the game and put a load on the CPU it may hit the temp limit of the board and shut it down... you should probably post up the ambient (room temps) temps and well and the GPU temps at idle too.... you may be having a heat issue.... My i7 is idle around 38-40c on UT3 load its only jumps to 45-52c The GPU idles around 60c and when I fire up UT it only h its 70-72c I will check temps and such when I get home. I have been playing UT3 through and on stock settings, and it still does it btw.

I've run OCCT and 3dMark and that stresses the GPU more then anything. Does it make any reflection of the card that when GPU-Z gives me the details about the card, it only says 1 gig of ram on the card? dr_bowtie Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 is it the install off the CD/DVD...? like i said my install of that crashes but steam is fine
Crazy_Nate Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 When I was having stability issues (but not memtest / OCCT / prime95), I had symptoms like that, but it wasn't just with one game. Ultimately I had to go through a slew of components to get rid of it (a different motherboard, and power supply). I've run both the UT3 installs (DVD and steam), in both XP and Vista x64. Haven't had trouble unless I was running problematic drivers. Are these issues limited to UT3 only?
