Will attempt to restructure. God help them.

None of the major news outlets have posted official pages for it yet, but Reuters confirmed just a few minutes ago that Chrysler filed Chapter 11.

Talks between the Treasury Department and lenders aimed at keeping Chrysler LLC out of bankruptcy broke down late Wednesday, making it all but certain that the car maker will file for Chapter 11 protection Thursday, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Administration officials, who have been braced for a Chrysler bankruptcy filing for weeks, say all the pieces are in place to get the country's third-largest employer through the court quickly, perhaps in a matter of weeks.

No surprise here. When it was determined that the Fiat deal depended on concessions from the unions, I thought that pretty well solidified their fate. I thought I had read something yesterday on DailyTech that implied the talks had succeeded, but call me crazy for doubting the Union's concessions until it's official.

Either way, Chrysler has been pretty obsolete for me for quite some time. With the exception of the new Charger, nothing of theirs interests me at all. Even then, as they always do, they release the $50k version of the Charger that just rocks socks but then they release the $25k version with the same name on it that looks and performs like a turd. So you can't even say the "Charger" is sweet because most of them suck. Then there's Jeep. What an awesome niche they used to have with the Wrangler (TWO door, STICK SHIFT) and the Cherokee. Now they've got all this other crossover/mid-size generic SUV crap just feeding off the "It's a Jeep thing" mentality and diluting their niche brand. Between all the worthless mid-range Jeep stuff and all the fugly Dodge crossover models I'd say this wouldn't be much of a loss for me. If someone's got to take the fall, it might as well be them.

Like Lo said, God help them. They're going to need it.

AGREED

Topless offroader (Maybe they can keep the 4 door as well?) and an SUV model, that is the only thing that JEEP needs... EVER.

I mean really?

Commander

Compass

Liberty

Patriot

Why?

No seriously...

WHY!?

C'mon Jeep...

I hope somone buys them from Chrysler and injects a bit of AMCism into them.

As for the rest of Chrysler I agree... (along with chevy)

They just have way too may cars for their own good...

No, no it won't.

yes, yes it will. The 4.0L is easily one of the most reliable and bulletproof motors around. I had to get into an accident to finally stop it, and I still drove home from the accident, the motor didn't even care. (though that's not really related) It's not the cleanest or most efficient motor but it's a great torque monster and you can beat it and beat it and beat it and it doesn't matter, suck in water, run with low oil. You name it, I've done it and it never has cared. Has 198K on it now.

My jeep cherokee's 4.0L straight 6 will equal or outlast any motor on the road

Two things you can count on with a Cherokee and a 4.0L. Cracked exhaust manifolds and $600.00 HVAC repair bills.

Any good diesel (and there are many) will last longer, get better mileage, and require less maintenance. The 4.0 isn't a bad motor by any means but it's certainly not one of the best.
