4x 1GB or 2x 2GB Memory

Recommended Posts

Hello OCC members,

I am planning to buy new components for a new PC. But I'm not sure about the memory.

What I have so far;

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (with a Thermaltake Blue Orb FX);

- EVGA 750i SLI FTW;

- 2x XFX GTX260 C216;

- 250GB Hard disk;

- 850W Corsair PSU;

- Lian Li PC60F (custom case-mod).

But now, I don't know about the memory. I'm going for Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz, but should I go for 4x 1024MB or 2x 2048MB RAM and why?

Thanks in advance,

FaiN

Go for 2x2 gb.Filling all of your ram slots can lead to problems with some setups.Dont ask why,it just is.Also by using 2x2 gb you have extra slots free for when you want even more ram.

Thanks for your reply 00stevo,

I've been searching on Google too, people say that you load your NB more with 4x1GB than 2x2GB, is that true?

Yes. Many boards require you to use looser timing when running 4 sticks of RAM, plus you usually have to resort to a lower OC.

Ram overclocks are only as stable as the lowest clocking stick can run, and 4 sticks increases the chance of getting stuck with a low clocking stick.

I would just go with 4gb (2x 2gb). You can get a good deal on newegg for g.skill or patriot ddr2 1066.

On a side note, I have 4gb (4x 1gb) of ddr2 1066 (mushkin and ocz) that I would gladly sell you. Unfortunately, it's still way too early for me to post something in the occ marketplace. :(
