peterprob Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hi guys, all i know is that i use my pc, i design websites with frontpage I have been attacked by some kind of virus, i have downloaded many antivirus and antispyware, they didnt find it. What is happening with me, i have html page with photos, so i upload the site to hosting, after few hours a java line appears and saying it is malaware. first i thought it is from hosting, so i tried to install the same files on other hosting, same problem happened. they told me that my pc is infected, i made format 2 times to my pc, and still that problem happened when i uploaded the site. FORMATTING A PC, IN GENERAL IS CLEANS IT FROM ANY SPYWARE OR VIRUS OR IT DOESNT? I am lost and thanks for any reply
fire_storm Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Formatting your hard drive will erase everything on the hard drive so yes it is one way to erase the spyware or viruses.
DLS2008 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Formatting a hard drive simply erases the address tables to the drive. It doesn't physically change the data that was there. To totally erase the data you need a program that can write 1s and 0s across the disk to physically change each data storage location. maj0rgamer Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) hey, welcome to the occ forum; rather than format, you should use a program like this to be sure to get rid of any unwanted stuff on the hard drive by writing over it. this is another wiping program, which is very good... simply download and burn an image to a cd-r disk and boot with it to write over the hard drive contents (the free version works just fine). there may be ways to save your data, if you wanna take the time to look into it... most likely depending on how bad of a virus it may be. are you sure it's a virus? here is some info on formatting and wiping hard drives, should help you out. you could also try highjack this, if you know somebody that knows how to deal with viruses and such... if you wanna save some data instead of having to wipe the drive and lose it all, maybe it's worth a try. sorry, don't know much about this sort of thing outside of wiping the drive (wouldn't mind learning about it though, maybe you should start a different thread on it and just see what happens)... plus there is probably plenty of stuff on the internet about it if you google around... somebody around here may even be willing to help you out with some of it as well. edit: just reread some of your post... have you already formatted and lost data? if so, if you simply use the wiping program linked above and then reinstall windows any malware or virus problems will be gone. however, having to reinstall programs and stuff is another story... that's the difficult and time consuming thing associated with losing everything on a hard drive.
