tkrow21 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I need some help with an issue I'm having. So far I see the problem in the only two games I play (and it happened out of nowhere) which are Left 4 Dead and Counter-Strike: Source. Whenever there are a large amount of people on the screen, I get major lag and only online. My ping does not increase and my internet is more than capable of handling these games. I have tried: Reinstalling both games Resetting the router and internet connection Restarting the computer and turning off all active programs but nothing seems to work. XxHellxRaizerxX Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 just sounds like your system may be getting overloaded... same thing happens to the Xbox 360. In Call of Duty 4 while playing Ground War you can get several drops in framerate which also causes people to appear as if they are lagging very badly. I'm not sure what your system specs are but this would be my guess.
tkrow21 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Servers? Nope, I've tried a wide range of servers from friend hosted servers to ESEA hosted servers. just sounds like your system may be getting overloaded... same thing happens to the Xbox 360. The games have been working fine for months, not to mention that an E8400 @ 3.84GHZ / HD4850 @ 680/1050 / 4GB DDR2 Ram wouldn't be slowed down by Counter-Strike: Source or even Left 4 Dead. Also, I can tell the difference between low FPS and lag, and this is certainly a lag issue, especially since it only happens online. XxHellxRaizerxX Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 yea well like i said i wasn't sure of your system specs . Have you tried going stock with your overclocks just for the hell of it? I'm sure this is a long shot but it's all I've got for now. I wouldn't really suspect your cpu overclock so much as your gpu. Try bring it down to stock and see what happens. I can't do that as of this moment but as far as the graphics go, the overclock is only increasing performance. Once again, this isn't an FPS issue (as I'm just above 200), but a network/lag issue. maj0rgamer Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 (edited) are you using a wireless internet connection? if so, this may be causing lag. are there other computers on a network with this one? are they using the internet... downloading stuff while you play, etc? this could also be an issue. I'm using a router but it's connected to my PC with an ethernet cable, and it's never caused lag before, so no. Yes, my brother has his laptop connected to the router, but with my 30mb/s download speed that isn't the issue as almost all sites cap their download speed. Not to mention that this would higher my latency, which isn't happening.
