MJCRO Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 RAM Dimms with Fans like especially Corsair Dominators, it that really necessary, or is cooling for RAM a real necessity in terms of overclocking and performance?
Zertz Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 (edited) RAM Dimms with Fans like especially Corsair Dominators, it that really necessary, or is cooling for RAM a real necessity in terms of overclocking and performance? It won't affect performance... until they die from heat of course It's a good idea to have a fan blowing on them when overclocking as they tend to get quite hot Edited April 25, 2009 by Zertz
MJCRO Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Yeah definitely, I noticed the heat just explode on my RAM now with this heat today, 81 Degrees in lower New York. The summer is gonna kill me.
Waco Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 RAM is generally tested up to 85 C. If your regular DRAMs are getting that hot you're doing something seriously wrong.
PingoPongo Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I think he meant 81 degrees fahrenheit outside/in his room...
kingdingeling Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 The only thing that's gonna kill you is that Rosewill PSU in your rig
PingoPongo Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Its about $60 @ newegg...
dr_bowtie Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 just consider this...electronics dont like heat...the cooler they run the better... and the longer they will live...
Zertz Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) Its about $60 @ newegg... If you want to upgrade to those 4890's this summer, you will need a new PSU If it was 81C in his room he would most likely be dead right now Edited April 26, 2009 by Zertz
Waco Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I think he meant 81 degrees fahrenheit outside/in his room... I know, I'm just saying it's pretty damn hard to actually overheat DRAM.
MJCRO Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) Haha Lmao guys. My temps for my RAM are not that bad, Their around 25-35C to the touch, and last night I did some cable management while replacing my GPU thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5, definitely helped a bit here take a look... Another question, If I wanted to OC DDR2 RAM, whats the best RAM to OC into the 1300 Mhz range on air, because my HyperX sticks hit a instability wall at 1230 Mhz. Any suggestions? Ravenica Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I know, I'm just saying it's pretty damn hard to actually overheat DRAM. Hahax.. It's quite possible if you live in a hot and humid country like mine and run the DRAM @ 2.3v
