RVE Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 You'll run the game fine, the biggest lag problems with SWG is constant HDD reading, especially in large cities like Theed where it has to load all the buildings and every player who has different colored clothes/armor, vehicles etc. I replied to your other post about SWG a few days ago found here I made that reply before you bought your new 5900, so that reply is a little off. But the rest still holds the same. You have 8mb cache so that should help a lot also. For the most part, people I know who have 1GB of ram say it helps wonders with SWG. Your framerate should be fine, except for when you flying through a crowded town and it has to render big buildings real fast cause it has to bring up all the textures from the HD. But for the most part you should be fine and the 8mb cache should help a lot. I have a similar comp, 1.8Ghz P4, 512mb ram, 5900se, cable, but my HDD's are 2mb cache. That bigger cache should help a lot with the lag problems I get. Usually the servers are pretty good with lag, my vid card I can crank up the AA and AF and it really helps with making the game look good. Only problem I have is my HD is constantly working in a big town or even travelling real fast on my swoop bike over terrain and all the textures are loading. Xtreme21 Posted January 1, 2004 Posted January 1, 2004 Yah you said there was a cap on the Framerate in SWG and there was a way to turn it off... Why would they put a cap on the FPS, i know you only need 29.9FPS for fluid motion but the higher the better..
RVE Posted January 1, 2004 Posted January 1, 2004 Well the Dev's explained why back in Beta, I don't remember specific words but something along these lines. Since 30fps is pretty smooth, they capped it there as to allow some cpu headroom and give your comp some slack. Once you get to 30fps, the cpu relaxes so it can get busy processing other stuff for the game. It's something along those lines. It might just be Bantha poodoo but I'll probably look up how to remove the cap and then play it and see if it really affects anything.
